Proximity of Care Approach in Vulnerable Urban Contexts

Published in 2021, this report was part of the first version of the Proximity of Care approach which focussed specifically on the challenges and opportunities confronting early childhood development in vulnerable urban contexts.

Derived from specialised research by Arup and the Bernard van Leer Foundation (BvLF), this report was developed to better understand the needs and constraints faced by young children, their caregivers, and pregnant women in informal and refugee settlements; and to ultimately help improve their living conditions and well-being.

The Proximity of Care Guide has since expanded to include all urban areas in any context.

Read the publications by four different Proximity of Care partners who helped develop this initial approach through four different projects in vulnerable urban contexts:

Proximity of Care Site Assessment Report: El Mina, Lebanon

Proximity of Care Site Assessment Report: Kibera, Kenya

Proximity of Care Site Assessment Report: Monwabisi, South Africa

Proximity of Care Site Assessment Report: Azraq, Jordan
